Most things with –tini in their name have our whistles whet and us leaving the office early for happy hour. Sour apple, watermelon– you name it and it’ll be lacing our lips by noon.
So when the latest TINI pushed by local nightlife impresario Tom Whitman came about, we were on all fours, eager to see what those in the know were drunk with excitement over.
Once we entered the freshly-minted TINI boutique on Fairfax, it took a few moments for us to soak in the astounding design treasures. Teeming in every available space of the brick and mortar are a comingling of one-of-a-kind vintage design pieces unlike anything we’ve ever seen.
Along with Whitman, co-owner Alexis Hadjopulos has successfully curated a shop full of vintage home and office décor finds. Whether it’s born of the 90’s or a relic from the 60’ s, there are more cross-generational gay items mixing here than in the past decade atNumbers.
With such a wide array of pieces there’s bound to be a few Items that don’t match one’s palate, but considering the inclusion of furnishings like desks and coffee tables from mid- century to the atomicage, right down to the framed Janet Jackson poster from the 90’s(which we are too young and skinny to remember), there’s bound to besome relic of design antiquity screaming our names.
An acronym culled from ThisIsNotIkea.com (the Internet origins of thebrick and mortar), TINI’s Fairfax storefront finally gives those of us on a budget a non-big-box option to shop for home décor. Even better, no assembly is required – though that doesn’t mean we won’t try to get Whitman or Hadjopulos to come home with us to show us where their pieces best fit…
